TEANECK, N.J. -- Teaneck Congregation Shaarei Orah will air the movie "Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem" Wednesday, Feb. 27. Doors open at 7:45 p.m. and the movie will begin at 8:15 p.m.

This Golden Globe nominee as Best Foreign Film is an uncompromising, heart-rending courtroom drama of a woman’s three-year struggle to obtain a divorce from her estranged husband. Tragically, she finds herself effectively put on trial by her country’s religious marriage laws. The movie is in Hebrew, French and Arabic with English subtitles. The evening will include a “talk back” with Rabbi Howard Jachter.

Jachter is an internationally recognized mesader Gittin (Gett administrator) under the auspices of the Beth Din (Rabbinical Court) of Elizabeth. Additionally, Jachter serves as chairmanman of the Agunah Prevention and Resolution Committee of the Rabbinical Council of America. Jachter is the Rabbi at Shaarei Orah, the Sephardic Congregation of Teaneck.

This film also is the winner of the Israeli Film Academy Ophir Award for Best Picture and propelled by the craft of Ronit Elkabetz, one of Israeli cinema’s most acclaimed actresses.
