The store — that sells almost anything from games to coffee — will be closing down sometime in March, owner Bruce Prince told Daily Voice.

“Retail is a tough business. It’s six days a week and my wife would like me not to work so much,” said Prince, 64. “As I get older I have to spend my time more judiciously.”

The community store has served as a hub since it opened, offering Mah Jongg classes, learning groups, poetry readings and musical performances.

Prince opened the shop as a way to connect members of the community, and he wants to make sure he ends things that way, too.

“Our communities have walls around them,” Prince said. “We have to look at how we can knock these walls down.”

Prince will be working on screens and embroideries for promotional clothing after he closes up shop.

“It will be a swan song," he said.

The owner plans on holding a community dialogue event between all facets of the Teaneck community to commemorate the closing of his store.

“I’ll have to come back more if you’re closing,” customer Lois Lynch said. “Make sure you have enough soup for me.”

"I'll give you the recipe," Prince said with a smile.

The Teaneck General Store is located at 502 Cedar Lane, Teaneck.
