TEANECK, N.J. — No one is selling advertising over the phone for a Teaneck information guide -- it's a scam, the Chamber of Commerce warns.

“Two large organizations in Teaneck were targeted last week, and since then other businesses have been contacted,” Chamber President Larry Bauer said. “When these type of phone calls or emails come through, we just have to be very vigilant.”

Targets of the scam are being told that ads for what the chamber says is a non-existent 2016 information guide cost from $349.50 to $799.99.

The email bears the name Mike Bruce, with a phone number that's been used in similar scams elsewhere, according to RipoffReport.com.

“If you look at the email there is no name of a publisher or no way to verify the place,” Bauer said.

Teaneck has been hit before: Scammers have offered advertising for a journal or calendar claiming to raise proceeds for local sports teams.

“I asked the Board of Education and they said they had no clue who these people are,” Bauer said. “These people are taking money and doing nothing for our community.”

Any Teaneck businesses that get suspicious calls or emails should alert the chamber, email him (larry@teaneckchamber.org) or call police.
