"I was thinking maybe I have an artistic side that I never explored and never knew about," she said.

Inspired by her son's artwork from school, she ventured into painting as a hobby.

Ten years later, her hobby became a business.

"One day I had this inspiration of painting parties," Cheslow said.

Her inspiration was well-timed. Paint and Sip, the combination of communal painting with casual wine drinking, has caught on in popularity in the past few years.

"I think it’s people that otherwise might go to the movies or for drinks and they want to combine those two," Cheslow said.

Each class has participants use an original painting for reference as an instructor takes them through the steps of how to recreate the painting.

The process can take around two hours but the casual atmosphere promotes chatting with friends while each person takes their own approach to the painting.

Cheslow said the activity doesn't require any prior artistic experience, allowing those curious about their own artistic abilities to explore what they're capable of.

Paint and Sip Studio is located at 10 Highwood Avenue in Tenafly. Wine is BYOB.
