"We are really focused on delivering patient-centric quality care that is convenient and accessible," Paramus native Nedal Shami said during the grand opening off Route 4.

Shami, the chief strategy officer, united with eight other physicians to launch City MD in 2010 with a facility on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Since then, they've opened dozens of urgent care clinics in the tri-state area.

Paramus will be the 43rd in operation, in exclusive partnership with Hackensack University Health Network. The organizations will share patient information, electronic medical records and a belief that payment should be based on value and not numbers of procedures or tests.

"This partnership makes tremendous sense," HUHN President and CEO Robert Garrett said. "We were very impressed with the follow-up care. They call patients to make sure they get [it]. They really go the extra mile."

His son, in fact, "raves" about City MD and is a "frequent flyer," Garrett added.

With assistants and technicians trained in treating a wide variety of illnesses and injuries, CityMD provides a year-round alternative to the waiting time for an appointment with a primary care physician -- or the expense of a trip to the ER.

It also accepts most major health insurance.

Clients entering the modern facility find white stone counters and slate floors.

"We are obsessed with delivering the best patient experience," Frank Illuzzi, the regional medical director, said this afternoon as he conducted private tours. "Our facilities are designed to be open and inviting, and we even incorporate the color white so you can easily see how immaculate the facilities are."

Calvin Hwang, the chief experience officer, spoke passionately about the love and emotion he hopes clients feel.

"We designed a system and policy that really reflects our heart," said Hwang, who moved his family to Upper Saddle River from New York for the school system. "It's very philosophical in how we want to redesign health care."

Clifton is next, with a planned Nov 9 opening at the Promenade Shops. A lease was also signed in Hoboken, with hopes for another clinic in Jersey City, officials said.
