WAYNE, N.J. -- Wayne police are urging business owners and residents with security cameras to register with them to help solve and prevent crimes.
The "Community Share-Cam" program doesn't give police access to the cameras.
Rather, it provides them with locations that they can map, along with contact information. This way when something happens they know whom they can go to.
"Whenever incidents occur they are not aware that their system may have captured valuable footage and information that could help solve crimes," Capt. Laurence Martin said. "Their assistance would help keep our community that much safer.
"The police are not always aware of which properties have these systems that potentially captured elements of the incident."
