Nelphi Peralta, 24, and Jewry Peralta-Ryes, 23, also had a 15-inch, black-handled machete, various packaging materials to sell drugs and bottles of cough syrup with the prescription labels removed, Capt. Laurence Martin told Daily Voice.
After targeting the brothers following neighborhood complaints of high-volume traffic and open-air drug sales on Walker Street, Wayne narcotics detectives worked with their department's detective and patrol division, as well as the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Task Force, to coordinate the investigation and make the arrests, Martin said.
A strike force of officers hit the apartment at 6 a.m. Tuesday, the captain said.
They found:
- two pellet-style rifles (one had the orange tip and the other had it removed);
- a air soft handgun missing the orange tip;
- an expandable metal law enforcement ASP 24 inch baton;
- a “Special Police”-style clam shell badge on leather backing and lanyard with handcuff keys;
- two sets of handcuffs;
- the machete;
- ¾ of a pound of pot packaged for sale, as well as the hash;
- four ounces of mushrooms;
- 83 prescription pills packaged for sale, along with packaging materials;
- two bottles of “promethazine cough syrup” with the missing labels.
Nelphy Peralta was arrested at the scene, and Jewry Peralta surrendered several hours later at police headquarters, Martin said.
Both were being held in the Passaic County Jail pending detention hearings on a host of drug and weapons charges.
Martin said Wayne police remain "committed to the pursuit of all 'quality of life' complaints, following up on each and every tip of illegal activity.
"We will continue to chase activities that pose security threats and that seek to destroy high quality of life we enjoy in Wayne Township," the captain said.
