PASSAIC COUNTY, N.J. — Here's a look at the five stories that topped Passaic County news last week:
SEX SLAVES: South Hackensack police rescued three underage girls from sexual slavery at a Route 46 motel, leading to the arrests of a Paterson woman and three alleged accomplices from Long Island, authorities said Wednesday.
CREEPY NEIGHBORS: Gina and Rich Martorana started planning for Halloween in May. The Wayne couple, known for its Christmas decoration-covered lawn in December, do a similar extravaganza come October for Halloween.
STOLEN CIGS: Using a hidden employees' key, five teens stole cigarettes from a Wanaque gas station before police busted them through surveillance video, authorities said.
R.I.P., PEDALS: A beloved upright bear who lately has been spotted in parts of northern Passaic and Bergen counties was killed in the North Jersey Bow Hunt, a Facebook group devoted to "Pedals" announced Friday.
BOGUS BOMB NOTES: Wayne police who charged a Morris County man with fabricating a story that he'd found a note saying bombs were placed throughout the Willowbrook Mall were searching for three men who they said jumped up on tables shouting "Black lives matter!" during Monday night's evacuation.
