Multiple Water Rescues In Central Jersey Due To Severe Flooding

Police, firefighters and EMS crews were busy rescuing stranded motorists as flood waters rose, authorities said.

In Dunellen, Middlesex County, there was a report of a water rescue that required mutual aid about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Multiple water rescues also were reported in Monmouth County, reports said.

Routes 35 and 36 in Keyport and Hazlet were closed to traffic due to flooding and numerous motorists trapped about 7:30 a.m., reports said. 

In Middletown, Route 35 southbound was reported closed at Kings Highway and Twin Brooks Avenue due to flooding. A detour was in place about 9:15 a.m.
