Joshua L. Ward was shot on the 700 block of Clinton Avenue around 3:10 p.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.
He was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead approximately 20 minutes later.
No arrests had been made as of Saturday morning police said.
