Heroes: Somerset County EMTs Wade Into Pond To Rescue Trapped Driver

A pair of EMTS waded into a Somerset County pond to rescue a driver who had veered off the road and into the water in Somerset County.

Julia P. Gomez was heading west on Old York Road when her Toyota Sienna left the road and became submerged in Ardmaer Park pond around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, Bridgewater Police Lt. Thomas Rice said.

Robert Wood Johnson Mobile Intensive Care Unit (M.I.C.U.) Medics, Michael Calabrese and Ryan Mulhall arrived moments after the crash, Rice said. 

They waded into chest-high water and pulled Gomez from the vehicle, Rice said.

Gomez was transported to Robert Wood Johnson, Somerset for evaluation.
