2 Firefighters Treated For Heat Exposure In Hillsborough Manufacturing Plant Blaze

A pair of firefighters were treated for heat exposure while putting out a blaze that broke out at a manufacturing plant Monday in Hillsborough, officials said.

Billows of heavy smoke were coming from the roof of Reckitt & Benckiser off Route 206 when police and firefighters arrived around 1:40 p.m., Hillsborough Police Sergeant Stephen Nowacki said.

Nearly a dozen companies from surrounding agencies responded as the fire climbed to two alarms. It was under control around 3:40 p.m., officials said.

Reckitt & Benckiser produces health, home and hygiene products such as Lysol.

"Just take a minute and say a quick prayer and keep all of our First Responders in your thoughts as they battle a serious fire here in town," Hillsborough Mayor Doug Tomson said.

In addition to Hillsborough police and fire departments, responding agencies include Montgomery Fire Companies 1 & 2, Manville Fire Department, Somerville Fire Department, Somerset Fire Company, Elizabeth Avenue Fire Company, Rocky Hill Fire Department, Millstone Valley Fire Company, Bradley Gardens Fire Company, Green Knoll Fire Company, Robert Wood Johnson EMS, Flemington Raritan Rescue Squad, Montgomery EMS, Somerset County HAZMAT, Hillsborough Township Office of Emergency Management, and Somerset County Office of Emergency Management.
