Dozen Displaced By 3-Alarm Newark Fire
A dozen people were displaced by a massive fire that tore through a Newark home and spread to nearby buildings overnight, authorities said. The fire broke out around 1:50 a.m. at 297 Clifton Ave., a 3.5-story wood frame house, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said. Firefighters rescued a driver in his 50s whose vehicle fell approximately 20 feet down an embankment off the side of Route 1&9 in a crash with a tractor trailer Tuesday. The incident occurred at the Route 78 westbound ramp around 4:20 p.m. At approximately 4:20 p.m., Newark Firefighters responded to the scene of the crash, where the victim’s car had dropped some 20 feet down, entrapping the driver. Dad Tried Rescuing Boy, 7, Who Died In Newark Fire
A 7-year-old boy died on the third floor of a Newark house fire that left three families homeless Thursday morning. Saahir Keiron Hartfield was on the third floor of his family's Astor Street home, when the blaze broke out at 65 Astor St., at approximately 4:50 a.m. A GoFundMe had raised more than $4,400 as of Friday morning.
