ELMWOOD PARK, NJ -- A tipster led Elmwood Park police to a handgun stashed in an alley next to a Broadway supermarket.
Drug investigators found the .40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun next to the Acme after a tipster pointed them that way Friday afternoon, Police Chief Michael Foligno said.
"It appeared that the weapon was placed there and was to be retrieved at a later time," Foligno said. "This was corroborated by the informant."
The unregistered firearm will be brought to the Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification for ballistics testing on Monday, the chief said.
Meanwhile, police were trying to identify the person who stashed it.
