Officers responded to the Pathmark at 7:50 p.m. after security spotted Daryle Keffel of Elmwood Park walk out of the Broadway supermarket with stolen merchandise, Police Chief Michael Foligno said this morning.

They caught up to Keffel in the parking lot, where he “became combative and uncooperative and attempted to flee the area,” Foligno told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “Officers physically detained him and brought him under control and successfully placed him under arrest.

“No injuries were sustained by anyone involved.”

Keffel was charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest and possession of two bags of heroin.

He remained held this morning on $10,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
