ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- Arthur Barillo Sr. -- a Pennsville resident, formerly of Elmwood Park -- died on Tuesday, April 26. He was 80.
Born in Hungary, Barillo came to this country as a young man with his family. He raised his family in Elmwood Park before settling in Pennsville after he retired. An Army veteran, he worked for Metal Components in Paterson for over 25 years, before he retired.
Barillo was active in St. Stephen's Church in Passaic, was a member of the William Penn Association and the Hungarian American League. He also held various positions in all of those organization over the years. He was also a parishioner of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish and various organizations affiliated with the church.
He is survived by his children, Arthur Barillo, Marta Barillo Smith and her husband Gary, Monica Barillo O'Neill and her husband Michael, and Thomas Barillo; grandchildren Allyson, Jaysen, Caroline, Jack, Zachary, Samanntha and Amanda; and siblings and in-laws Pina Silvia, Andrew Barillo, Margaret Kiraly and Alex Lakatos.
Barillo was predeceased by his wife of over 53 years, Martha Lakatos Barillo.
Visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at the Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home, 274 Market St., in Elmwood Park. Additional visiting hours will be from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, Queen of the Apostle Church, 391 South Broadway, in Pennsville. A funeral mass will follow, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, in Swedesboro.
