On Saturday morning, police arrested Derek Rodriguez, 35, after police were alerted about an erratic driver zipping around village streets and found out he had a few too many libations the night before.
Shortly after 7:30 a.m., police were dispatched to Weaver Street to track down a driver in a white BMW that was driving "erratically" in the area. According to the police report, while observing Rodriguez, officers watched him cross the double yellow line, traveling into oncoming traffic to pass a pair of vehicles.
Responding officers temporarily lost sight of Rodriguez when he made a right onto Hutchinson Avenue, but found him parked in from of a Herkimer Road home, slumped over his steering wheel shortly thereafter.
According to the report, Rodriguez told officers that he had “several gin and tonics” at 8 p.m. the night before in the Bronx. While speaking, officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, and his eyes were glassy and bloodshot.
Rodriguez would fail several standardized field sobriety tests, and when he took an also-sensor pre screening test it displayed a reading of .214 percent. He was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to Eastchester Police Headquarters to use the department’s Data-Master.
While at the station, Rodriguez's blood alcohol content read at .19 percent, more than double the legal limit. He was charged with misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated. He was also cited for a pair of violations.
Rodriguez was released on his own recognizance and is due back in Scarsdale Village Court on Wednesday.
