YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: The Ridge Road overpass above Route 3 in Rutherford was reopened overnight following repairs of damage caused Wednesday when a pole attached to a truck being towed slammed into it.
The overpass, which connects Lyndhurst and Rutherford, was re-opened to traffic in both directions as of about 1 a.m. today, Rutherford Police Capt. Patrick Feliciano told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
State Department of Transportation and PSE&G crews worked through the night and all day yesterday to ensure that it would remain safe.
The problem, they said, is a natural gas line that runs alongside a structural beam that was damaged when the pole struck the overpass just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The impact broke loose concrete and damaged both structural beams and electrical conduits under the bridge, authorities said.
