RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Rutherford firefighters doused a fire in a truck carrying cheese and sausage that shut down westbound Route 3 for several hours Wednesday past the evening rush.

The All Ways Transportation Inc. driver got out safely after the International tractor caught fire just before 3 p.m. near the Lincoln Avenue ramp.

Flames quickly raced into the trailer and also damaged a section of the highway's sound barrier.
