YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Bergen County authorities charged a North Bergen man who they said fell asleep behind the wheel of a bread delivery truck with the hit-and-run death of a Carlstadt business owner before dawn yesterday.

Joseph Eizaguirre, who turned 23 on Friday, was being held on $105,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.

Boro Atanasoski, a 63-year-old Macedonian immigrant, was struck and killed around 4:30 a.m. Saturday on Paterson Plank Road/Route 120 by truck driven by Eizaguirre of Schripps European Bread Company, located on Tonnelle Avenue at 54th Street, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT late last night.

Atanasoski, who lived in Brooklyn, owned Faith Environmental, Inc., a hazardous materials and asbestos removal contractor on Stanley Street in East Rutherford.

Eiazaguirre was charged with:

  • death by auto;
  • leaving the scene of an accident;
  • causing a death while operating a motor vehicle;
  • endangering an injured or helpless victim.

Molinelli’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit is handling the case.
