CARLSTADT, N.J. -- Carlstadt police charged a 31-year-old bus driver from Essex County with several counts of identity theft, among other offenses.

Salim Al-Zarad of Belleville “submitted applications for the issuance of credit cards using personal information of another person,” Police Chief Thomas Nielsen said an investigation by Detective Lt. David Smith found.

Al-Zarad posted $30,000 bail and was released pending an Oct. 3 hearing in Carlstadt Municipal Court on seven counts of assuming a false identity by obtaining personal information of another and credit card fraud, the chief said.
