RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Thomas J. Cahill, of Rutherford, died Monday, March 27. He was 83.

Born in Jersey City, Cahill was a trader in New York City for the firm Singer, Bean & Mackie for 15 years. He then became store manager for Clare's Shop-Rite in Rutherford for 20 years, then went on to the A&P supermarket chain, from which he retired. 

He is survived by his children, Thomas Cahill and his wife Ronnie of Rutherford, Judy Truscello and her husband Tony of Wallkill, Therese Gagliardotto and her husband Alan of Mahwah, Helen Swaney and her husband Robert of Manalapan, Robert Cahill and his wife Andrea of Rutherford, Bernadette Finelli and her husband Anthony of Rutherford, and Elizabeth Stone and her husband Matthew of North Arlington. 

Cahill is also survived by 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his wife, Mary (West) Cahill.

Visitation will be on from 4-8 pm. on Thursday, March 30, at the Macagna-Diffily-Onorato Funeral Home, 41 Ames Ave., in Rutherford. The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home, with a 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St.Mary, in Rutherford. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, in North Arlington.
