Longtime Rutherford School Nurse Beverly Walker Dies At 72

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Beverly Anne (Kinsley) Walker, of Rutherford, died on Tuesday, March 21. She was 72.

Born in Passaic, Walker was an occupational health nurse for the New York Times and an adjunct professor for 25 years at New Jersey City University, in the Health Sciences Department. 

She was also the school nurse and health educator in the Rutherford School District for 27 years. She retired in 2008. She worked as the public health nurse for four years in Rutherford, and she was also a member of the Medical Reserve Corps for eight years. 

Walker was awarded the Governor's Teacher of the Year Award in 1990 and received the New Jersey City University Distinguished School Nurse Alumni Award in 2002.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Henry Walker; children Cheyenne Allen, Howard Walker and his wife Christine, and Heidi Rashid and her husband Asad; brother Albert Kinsley and his wife Clare; aunt Emma Binns; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Walker was preceded by her sister, Elizabeth Wilde.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, March 27, at the Macagna-Diffily-Onorato Funeral Home, 41 Ames Ave., in Rutherford. The funeral will be from the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., with a 10:45 a.m. prayer service. Interment will follow, at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
