CARLSTADT, N.J. — Three youngsters rescued by police over their Carlstadt backyard fence this past summer will soon have a memory book honoring their mother.
Rutherford schoolteacher Michele Miragliotta Sabia, 44, was shot and killed in July by her husband, Scott, who then turned the gun on himself.
"Memory of Michele" was launched by family members as a way for her children, 14, 11 and 9 — who are living with her parents in Rutherford — to remember her.
So far, former colleagues, friends, students and relatives have contributed.
More than $81,000 also had been raised as of Monday, Dec. 26, on a GoFundMe account that will go toward the three Sabia children.
"They're doing about as good as they can be," said Michele's brother, Michael Ambyth, of his niece and nephews.
"They not only lost their mother, but they lost their father that day as well."
"They're working through their own memories," he said. "They're coping as best as they can."
