RIDGEWOOD, N.J. – The 2016 synchronized swim season has started off with great success for the YWCA Synchro Stars, a new team that trains at the YWCA of Bergen County in Ridgewood, when they placed in their first competition of the year April 23-24 at the NJ Association meet at Montclair State University.
Coached by Jonghee Lee, Laura Alt and Kris-Ann Gutenmakher, the team consists of young women ages 7 and older from all Bergen County. For most of the 12 and younger girls — who started synchronized swimming in September 2015 — this was their first experience in a major competition.
The following routines qualified the swimmers to compete in the recent Region B Championships in Phoenixville, Pa. — second place in intermediate figures 11–12; first, second and third place in figures 13 and over; first and third place in duet 11-12; first and second place in duet 13 and over; second and third place in solo 11-12; first, second and third place in solo 13 and over; third place in team 11-12; and first place in team 13 and over.
The following routines qualified the swimmers to compete in the East Zone Championships Sunday, June 5 in Lodi — first and second place in intermediate duet 11-12; first place in duet 13 and over; third place solo 11-12; first and second place solo 13 and over; third place team 11-12; second place team 13 and over.
The YWCA Synchro Stars will perform in the annual Aquacons Synchro Swim Show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21 at the YWCA of Bergen County, 112 Oak St., Ridgewood.
