After reading "The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates," Torah Academy of Bergen County students and staff will get a visit from former Rutgers University defensive lineman Eric LeGrand for the school's sixth annual book day on March 8.

The book explores how life can take unexpected twists and turns, and LeGrand — whose paralysis was caused by a spinal cord injury at MetLife Stadium in 2010 — will drive that point home.

“In a split second, his life changed," said Carol Master’s, the chairwoman of TABC’s English department who invited LeGrand to speak. "But it didn't stop."

Doctors at Hackensack University Medical Center said LeGrand would never walk or breathe on his own again after being carried off the field in a stretcher.

LeGrand defied the odds and now uses his electric wheelchair to visit schools and share his story of perseverance.

He’s already off his ventilator and he is determined to walk again one day.

Masters is hoping her students will learn how to respond to, and rise above, difficult situations by hearing LeGrand’s story.
