RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Laura Berry -- a 2012 graduate of Ridgewood High School -- is the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship, the Ridgewood News has reported.
Berry just graduated with honors from Carnegie Mellon University, with a degree in creative writing and Japanese studies, according to the Ridgewood News, and Berry plans to use the scholarship to study Japanese literature -- in Japan.
Her interest in Japanese literature was sparked while she was in high school, the Ridgewood News reported. "I stumbled upon a book by Yoko Ogawa in a bookstore and I was kind of like, 'That's it, this is my favorite category of literature,'" she said.
