BEYOND BERGEN: A mechanical worker at Newark Airport was hospitalized with a left leg injury after being struck by an Air Train this morning, authorities said.
The 51-year-old worker from North Brunswick was working on a track near the P1 station when he was struck around 11:10 a.m., the Port Authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.
The impact knocked him to the lower catwalk and forced a power shutdown so he could be placed on a stretcher, lowered to the ground and transported to University Medical Center after being treated at the scene, Pentangelo said.
“The injury is non-life threatening and the worker was conscious,” he said.
Responders included authority police and members of the Port Authority Police Emergency Services Unit and Elizabeth Fire Department.
