YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: Tense moments gave way to relief for the parents of 20 children from the Hawes Elementary School in Ridgewood after a school bus was rear-ended this afternoon.
Parents were notified by telephone to report to Van Emburgh Avenue and Elaine Terrace just after the 3:30 p.m. incident, in which the Audi driven by a 22-year-old Hillsdale man hit the bus, Ridgewood Police Chief John Ward told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Washington Township police assisted their village colleagues in helping the youngsters off the bus and into the waiting arms of parents.
Both the bus and car were driven away. No summonses were immediately issued.
