Stephen E. Lohm, 72, Of Ridgewood

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Stephen E. Lohm, 72, of Ridgewood, died Sept. 26.

He was born Oct. 6, 1943, in Passaic.

He graduated from Columbia University, where his teachers included Margaret Mead and Louis Leakey, who instilled in him an ongoing respect for ancient peoples and traditions. He was a member of the Peace Corps and served with distinction as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Armed Forces, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.

One of his first jobs was as vice president of Lockheed Aircraft and he established its first Southeast Asian office in Singapore in 1978. He also was a part of the first American business community to visit China. Prior to that, he accompanied the "Spirit of St. Louis" from the Smithsonian to France for the Paris Air Show in 1977. He developed a lifelong admiration for Charles Lindbergh and his heroic flight and became an avid collector of Lindbergh memorabilia.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Felicity; granddaughter, Katie Grace Cantrell; and sister Susan Lohm Griffin.

He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Scout; parents, Ralph and Celeste Lohm; and sister, Gloria Lohm Castiglia.

A memorial visitation will be conducted from 4-6 p.m. Saturday with a memorial service to follow thereafter at 6 p.m. at CC Van Emburgh Funeral Home, 306 E Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the For Scout Foundation, which was established to honor and benefit the things and causes that were important to his granddaughter Scout and to himself-arts education in school, animal rescue organizations and aquatic programs for those in need.
