RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Members of the Ridgewood Elks hope a GoFundMe page will help pay legal fees to fight organization officials who revoked their charter in March.

The lodge has been on probation “for quite some time” and hadn’t been performing the way it should for the Grand Elks Lodge, Special Deputy Grand Exalter Ruler Malcom McPherson told Daily Voice.

In particular, the grand lodge cited a lack of community programming.

Exalted Ridgewood Ruler Michael Enright feels otherwise.

“I’m fighting for what I believe in,” Enright said. “My town, my community and my charitable organization.”

Things seemed to be on the upswing for local officers, who since 2012 have gotten programming in place in order to meet probationary terms set in 2007, Enright told Daily Voice.

Enright, a 17-year-member, and other officials vowed they’d “take back the lodge” in July 2012.

“The goal from day one was to get back into the community,” he said.

The lodge has been using a $17,000 grant for teen projects such as a drug awareness day and an Antler program for teens to help special needs athletes on the baseball field.

The Ridgewood Elks won first place in New Jersey for their community service booklet, which local officials say addresses the Grand Elks’ reason for shutting them down.
