Ridgewood Church Celebrates Decade In Building After Fire

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- The original sanctuary is gone. As are the auditorium, the chapel, nursery and library of Ridgewood's West Side Presbyterian Church.

What remains are the people who lived through the fire that ravaged the S. Monroe Street facility in 2002, shortly after a $1.8 million renovation, The New York Times says.

Ministers Rev. March Oehler, Rev. Penny Hogan and Rev. Liz Junod, along with thousands of members, are celebrating a decade in the building that they moved into on Easter Sunday in 2006.

The church opened in 1922 — eight decades before the fire — and currently is home to almost 100 weekly-meeting groups.
