The 6th annual ceremony starts at 7 p.m. and includes luminary lighting. Participants also are invited to set up a luminary display at their houses starting at sundown Sunday. Make sure luminaries are placed away from anything that can catch fire, officials said.

Luminaries are available for a donation from Bob Paoli, commander of American Legion Post 53. Call (201)-445-1738 to arrange a pick-up.

Sept. 25 was declared Gold Star Mothers Day by the U.S. Congress in 1936 to honor families who lost a member in service to the county, according to the U.S. Army. Since World War I, families with members in active military during a time of war flew Blue Star flags. The blue star is changed to gold if the service member is killed.
