RIDGEWOOD, N.J. . -- Tony Damiano credits Ridgewood store's 15 years in business to his background in visual presentation and space planning.

"We want the store to appeal to our customers across all of their senses," he said of Mango Jam on N. Broad Street. That means visually as well as sensory -- touch, feel and smell.

Tabletop has been the backbone of the store's inventory but there are also plenty of candles, toiletries, pillows and picture frames.

"Lake and cabin themed items have gotten very big," he said.

Seasonal products have always been what the store specializes in — with Thanksgiving mode in full swing. To that end, tabletop by Nora Fleming where folks can switch up white dishes with platter ornaments — think Thanksgiving, Chanukah, and Christmas — is a top-selling item.

So, too are the Thymes line in seasonal scents along with Fraser Fir, Votivo candles, and whimsical Lori C. Mitchell holiday figurines.

Customized cutting boards with names and home towns are also big and ideal for weddings and housewarming gifts.

And then there's the mango jam, for which the store is named. "It's a homage to my mother-in-law," said Damiano who said it's his mother-in-law's recipe that he and his wife make. (He runs the store with his wife, Gina.) Other flavors include spiced blueberry and strawberry. They also do a mango chutney.

Damiano admits it hasn't always been easy being a small business owner in Ridgewood. "The recession was tough," he said. There was also a time when the town was innundated with banks. "Now we're overflowing with restaurants," he said. "And parking is always an issue.

"Luckily I live close to the store," he said. "So I can walk to work."
