Head-On Crash: Utility Pole Snapped, Transformer Lands In Truck And Driver's OK In Fair Lawn
A driver somehow escaped serious injury in Fair Lawn on Thursday when his box truck skimmed a tree, bowled over four street signs and slammed flush into a utility pole, snapping it clean in half. Not only did the upper section of the streetlight pole land on top of the truck in the collision on Lincoln Avenue near Loretto Avenue around 1:30 p.m. July 27. The transformer also fell through the roof into the cargo area (see photo above). Freak Accident: Englewood Crash Brings Utility Pole Down On Second Vehicle, Two Extricated
An overnight crash in Englewood on Sunday pulled down three utility poles, one of which struck another vehicle behind the first one, authorities said. A Lexus wagon driven north by a 57-year-old Elmwood Park woman struck a pole on northbound Grand Avenue at the Linden Avenue intersection around 3:15 a.m., Deputy Police Chief Gregory Halstead said.The pole pulled down two others with it as it toppled, he said. : 12 Victims Hospitalized In Hillside Senior Citizen Bus Crash
A dozen people were hospitalized with what were characterized as minor injuries after a car rear-ended a bus in Hillside Thursday, sending it into a utility pole. A Hyundai Sonata traveling on Long Avenue apparently blew a stop sign and rear-ended a Hillside Senior Citizen bus that was headed south on Central Avenue just before 9:30 a.m., authorities said. Tipped Rig Dumps Load Of Mulch Near Bergen-Rockland Border
A dump truck spilled a load of mulch Monday afternoon near the Bergen-Rockland border, toppling a utility pole, yanking down power lines and spilling fuel. Brookside Auto & Towing sent a heavy-duty wrecker to Rockleigh to right the rig after the Piermont Road mishap. New Milford sent its Hazardous Materials Unit to handle the fuel spill. The driver appeared unharmed.

An SUV crashed into a utility pole and landed on its roof in Hackensack early Monday evening. The impact snapped the pole on Mary Street just before 5:30 p.m. Police, firefighters and EMS responded.

: Route 17 Shut Down After Tractor-Trailer Yanks Down Wires In Ramsey
In one of the most frustrating of coincidences, Route 17 on Friday afternoon was closed in both directions again after a tractor-trailer got tangled in utility wires in Ramsey -- dangling them over the highway and requiring that poles be replaced like they were during a traffic nightmare two weeks ago. The UPS rig was pulling out of the northbound side's Quick Chek when it snagged the wires, closing the highway in both directions from Allendale Road to Lake Street, responders said. A sedan severed a utility pole on a rain-slicked road Friday afternoon in Hawthorne. The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue at the corner of Dixie Avenue.
