RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- The incumbent team of Ridgefield Park Mayor and Council is having a nominating petition signing in the Civic Center this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.

George D. Fosdick, who has been mayor of Ridgefield Park since 1992, will be a candidate for re-election in the May 10 election.

All five seats in the village with Commissioner form of government are up this year, explained Mayor George D. Fosdick, who has been a member of the governing body since 1984 and mayor since 1992.

In addition to the mayor, the four commissioners currently are John H. Anlian, Margaret R. Boyd, Adam MacNeill, and Hugh R. Poli.

However, there may be opposition. Five additional petitions have been taken out by one person, Village Clerk Tara O’Grady confirmed last week.

Fosdick said he believes the insurgent candidates will be “some of the people who ran before, and that is all part of the process.”

Elections in Ridgefield Park are non-partisan, with all candidates running equally. After the general election the governing body selects one of its members as mayor, and designates each member as commissioner over an area of government.

Those commissioners then act as final authority over their departments with the power to hire and fire, set salaries, allocate personnel, and other management functions.
