RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- Ridgefield Park police got a boost from the public in raising more than $1,200 toward cancer research and awareness in honor of retired Police Chief Dieter Arhlich during No Shave November.
Police Chief Edward Rose relaxed regulations, allowing neatly trimmed beards, for 30 officers who signed on for the drive.
Donations in Arhlich's name came not only from the officers themselves but from civilians assisting the cause.
Ahrlich, 67, lost a battle with cancer last October. He'd lived in the village for more than 30 years.
