New Jersey education officials revoked the substitute teaching license of a Bergenfield Marine veteran charged with collecting more than $20,000 in paid injury leave from the U.S. Postal Service.

Christopher Cassese, 47, was accused of working his side business Semper Fi Pest Control while raking in thousands in paid injury left, after having received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Marines.

While on injury leave, Casesse "was required to complete and sign US Postal and Department of Labor forms on which there was a question directly related to his injury status and any outside work being performed during the leave," Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.

Cassese "completed more than ten of the forms indicating that he was not working in any other capacity while on leave," the prosecutor said.

He also held a substitute credential that expires in July 2019, said the State Board of Examiners in a release , issuing Cassese an order to show cause as to why his credentials should not be revoked. Cassese did not respond, so the Board followed up with another notice, giving him an additional 15 days to respond this time.

Again, the veteran did not file a response, the Board said.

Education officials reached out a third time, offering Cassese an opportunity to explain why he should be able to keep his teaching credential, according to the release. He never responded.

"The Board concluded that no material facts related to Cassese’s offense were in dispute since he never denied that he had engaged in the alleged conduct," officials said.

The Board in December voted to revoke Cassese's teaching license.
