The clinic, a joint presentation of the courts and the Employment Opportunity Project, is being provided to help those with minor convictions clear their records for better job prospects.

Information covered will include the kinds of records that can be expunged, both criminal and juvenile, the requirements for being eligible, how to prepare and file an application for expungement and what happens after an expungement has been granted.

Those who attend the forum should bear in mind that "expungement" is a legal term that means a criminal or juvenile record is sealed, and that it's illegal for anyone to use the information.

It does not guarantee, however, the record will remain sealed forever. If someone with an expungement is charged with a new crime, records can be reopened.

General information at the clinic will be provided by Northeast New Jersey Legal Services and the Bergen County courts staff. Individual cases will not be discussed or resolved.

Space for the session is limited. Reservations should be made ahead of time by calling 201-527-2265.

The Bergen County Justice Center is at 10 Main St., Hackensack.
