Kaname In Cliffside Park Vies For Top Spot In DVlicious Sushi Contest

CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. -- Say Om ... as in omakase, the Japanese phrase that translates to "I'll leave it up to you.”

Where once folks cringed at the thought of raw fish, now they crave it with Bergen County diners putting spicy salmon rolls and yellowtail scallion high on their list of “must haves.”

We asked – and you answered – giving us five of your favorite sushi restaurants. Grab your chopsticks and read below; each eatery is being profiled this week with the winner announced at the end of the month.

What Makes It Good: They are known for their big portions and authentic Japanese meals. Owner George Matsumura is an avid Yankees fan and he has pictures of celebrities and athletes who have visited over the years. He welcomes all sports lovers and can seat 80 in the dining area. Chef Shin Kubota serves at the sushi bar.

Diners Like: Their pub-style ambience and authentic Japanese style yakitori.

Worth Special Mention: Matsumura is from Kyoto, Japan and has been in the United States for 43 years. He is celebrating his 30th anniversary of the restaurant on Monday, Dec. 1.
