Washington Township police: Burglary suspect trying to change his look ‘clipped’

A burglary suspect apparently thought a haircut could change his appearance, but Washington Township police said they quickly clipped him, in a case that was borderline-follicle.

Officers responding to a neighbor’s call just before 11:30 last night found Kirk Best getting his hair cut by his girlfriend in their bedroom, Police Chief Randy Ciocco told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

Police didn’t need to mullet over.

“It was an obvious attempt to change his appearance,” Ciocco said.

The Hickory Street victim called police at 11:20, saying she put on her backyard light after hearing what sounded like someone trying to break into the rear of her house.

A startled Best, who lives in the house directly behind hers, stood there holding a window screen before running off, Ciocco said.

Officers went to his Walnut Street house, knocked on the door and asked for Best, 44, the chief said.

Another tenant told them: “He’s in his bedroom getting a haircut from his girlfriend.”

When Best emerged, “one side of his head was partially shaved and his shirt was covered in hair clippings,” Ciocco told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “As officers talked with him, a big curl fell to the floor.”

Because he was intoxicated, Best was brought to Bergen Regional Medical Center before being transferred to the county jail, the chief said.

He was being held there today on $10,000 bail, charged with burglary and criminal mischief.
