The first to approve a measure was the mayor and council of Washington Township, where Kim Montelaro attended Immaculate Heart Academy before she was abducted, raped and butchered by Christopher Righetti.
“Righetti is a dangerous murderer who has shown no remorse for his brutal crime,” said Bob Schroeder, founder of KeepBergenSafe.com and a member of the Washington Township Council. KeepBergenSafe.com is collecting letters and emails to send to the state Parole Board in advance of a hearing at which Kim’s parents, Alice and Andrew Montelaro, and her brother, Paul, are expected to speak.
“We’re doing our best to get as many people as we can to join us in our fight to keep Christopher Righetti behind bars where he belongs,” Schroeder said.
It was August 1976 when Righetti — then 16 — abducted the 20-year-old honor student from the parking lot of the Paramus Park Mall and took her to a wooded area, where he raped her and stabbed her six times in the chest, authorities said.
She was 17 years old in the yearbook picture at left (June, 1974), which was graciously provided by the Montelaro family.
“Kim’s life was taken from her, and now, her killer must be penalized for the rest of his life,” Anthony Montelaro said. “He should never, ever be paroled.”
