Albert Johansmeyer, 28, of Blauvelt, NY, was arrested on Tuesday, April 15, following a wild chain of events at the TigerMart inside the Exxon Gas Station on Chestnut Ridge Road — located just off the Garden State Parkway in Montvale, according to Capt. Alisha Foley.
Johansmeyer allegedly stole items from the store and got into an altercation with the store manager outside, during which he threw water on an employee, police said.
He then walked toward a gas pump with a lit cigarette before staff could intervene — a dangerous situation that police say could have been disastrous.
When officers arrived and attempted to take him into custody, Johansmeyer fought back and assaulted two officers, according to Foley.
He was arrested and taken to the Bergen County Jail, where he was processed and booked on the following charges:
- 1st-degree robbery
- 2nd-degree attempted arson
- Aggravated assault on a police officer (3rd and 4th degree)
- Obstruction of justice (disorderly persons offense)
- Shoplifting (disorderly persons offense)
