According to Passaic County Freeholder Director Theodore "TJ" Best, Phase I of the project consists of:

  • Dredging of the pond
  • Additional new basketball court
  • Additional new tot lot (for ages 2-5) playground equipment
  • ADA Compliance of existing restroom
  • Conversion of ballfields into multi-use field

"Extensive use of the park as created the need for improvements and modifications," Best said. "Additional playground equipment tailored for kids ages 2-5 will be installed, the baseball fields will be converted to multi-use fields for greater usability, and a basketball court will be installed as well. Sediment, silt, and vegetation has accumulated in the Weasel Brook pond over the years. In an effort to improve the health of pond, it will be dredged to the allowable NJDEP limits.

“My colleagues and I continue our commitment to upgrading our county parks. The grant from the NJDEP allows the county to implement Phase I of the Weasel Brook Park Improvement Project while lessening the burden on taxpayers,” added Best. “The county park system provides local families the opportunity to get together for recreation and outdoor time.”

Weasel Brook Park is on Westervelt Avenue and features two playgrounds, fitness equipment and a wading pool for the summer months.

The county accepted a bid from DTS Services, LLC, according to Best.

Phase II of the project, which is still being designed, will begin next year, Best said.

"The freeholders aim to fix the walkways and install lighting throughout the park," he added.

Weasel Brook Park will remain open to the public during construction.

“Parks and open space have significant value to residents in urban areas like Clifton,” said Freeholder Bruce James. “Weasel Brook is a popular park, it was a priority for the Freeholders to ensure the improvements would not interfere with continued use of the park.”
