The cultural festival features performances, rides, games and Indian food. Vendor booths will offer clothing, jewelry, gifts, crafts and home décor.
“We welcome talents from all communities to come and perform on DIA Diwali Festival Day,” the group said on its website. “This is a community event and serves as a friend-raiser event.”
The Indian Diwali Festival is from noon to 5 p.m. at Duck Pond Park, 90 Park St., Demarest.
“Our goal is to work as a team and raise funds to support noble causes across the globe,” the group said. “Educating underprivileged children, providing shelter, food and vocational training is important to DIA’s mission.”
Proceeds from the cultural festival will go toward the education of underprivileged children, the group said.
DIA, formed in 2010 and based in Secaucus, works with a shelter in Darbaripur, India, on the outskirts of Guragaon, to help educate 21 orphans. DIA said another overseas endeavor provides education to four children whose parents cannot afford school fees and the required books and uniforms. In addition, the group works with Light of Life, a charitable organization in Mumbai, India, to adopt a village to provide education, health and vocational services to children in need.
“Recently we reconstructed a burnt house for a family of six in Karachi, Pakistan. Another milestone was to facilitate a screening camp in Mumbai for the handicapped,” DIA said on its website.
