13-Year-Old Girl, Mom Found Shot Dead In New Jersey Home: Police

A mother and her teenage daughter were found shot dead inside their Trenton home, sparking a major investigation, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Trenton police raced to the 300 block of West State Street just after 10:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported two bodies inside the residence, according to the prosecutor's office.

Officers discovered a 13-year-old girl shot dead in a third-floor bedroom, and her 40-year-old mother fatally shot in a stairwell leading upstairs. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A person of interest was detained on unrelated charges, but no one has been arrested for the killings, authorities said.
