2 Seriously Hurt In 5-Vehicle Crash On NJ Turnpike

Two people were seriously hurt in a five-car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Hudson County on Friday, Dec. 9, authorities said.

The crash occurred when a Volvo flatbed truck struck the back of a Mercedes Benz C30, which struck a Nissan and the concrete barrier around 12:55 p.m. near milepost 108.4 in Kearny, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Alejandro Goez said.

The Volvo then struck the rear of the Lexus and the Lexus then struck the rear of the Hyundai.

As a result, the driver of the Mercedes Benz, 69-year-old man from Staten Island, NY and the passenger, a 62-year-old woman from Staten Island, NY, were seriously injured and taken to an area hospital. 

The driver of the Lexus sustained minor injuries. The drivers of the Hyundai, Volvo, and Nissan were not injured.
