Colchamiro, who will graduate this May, is one of just 150 community college students in the country to receive an award and scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.

A graduate of Tenafly High School in New Jersey, Colchamiro currently lives in Suffern.

High-achieving students are nominated for the award by campus administrators. An independent panel of judges considers academic achievement, leadership and engagement in college and community service in the selection process, according to a release from RCC. The program is administered by Phi Theta Kappa, the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of community college students, the release said.

Colchamiro, who has a 4.0 grade point average, was also named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-New York Academic First Team. She currently serves as the student representative to the RCC Board of Trustees and president of the Speech and Debate Team.

She anticipates graduating RCC in May with an associate's degree in Liberal Arts and Science: Humanities & Social Science, and is planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.

Colchamiro intends to become a lawyer and aims to work on behalf of environmental organizations.
