Records show victim in fatal gang hit-and-run had criminal past

Before he fell off a moving vehicle and died in a Route 4 parking lot this weekend, Kevin Brewington had spent the better part of 10 years in trouble, serving prison sentences for aggravated assault, among other convictions. But he apparently kept his record clean for five years.

The 37-year-old parolee’s past caught up with him, however, when he and several others jumped onto a converted minivan and began breaking its windows as a gang fight erupted in the parking lot of a Route 4 restaurant in Paramus early Sunday, authorities said.

The man behind the wheel, popular hip hop record producer Raqeeb “Keeb Monee” Green, is now facing charges of leaving the scene of a fatality. He remains free on $100,000 cash bail.

Brewington had violated parole at least three times afer being sentenced to one to three years in prison in June 1997, records show. Convictions for contempt, drug dealing and drug possession followed, along with the violations that went with the offenses.

But the last the state criminal justice system had formally dealt with him was in 2004.

Earlier this year, his mother died. She was 63.

What put Brewington in the restaurant Saturday night is one of the questions yet to be answered.
