Victim Of Route 80 Parsippany Bus Crash Remembered By Syracuse Sorority For 'Infectious Smile'

Authorities identified the victim of Thursday's Route 80 Parsippany bus crash as a 21-year-old Syracuse University student.

Brianna Herrara, of South Ozone Park, N.Y., was on the Adirondack Trails bus that collided with three other vehicles at approximately 7:30 p.m., New Jersey State Police said.

Herrara -- a senior studying information management and technology -- was on her way home to visit family when the accident occurred, Syracuse.com reports.

She was a member of Sigma Delta Tau. A photo of Herrara posted on the sorority's Instagram page garnered hundreds of condolences.

"We have no words to describe the tragedy that occurred last night that took the life of one of our beloved sisters," the caption says. "Brianna was a senior in our chapter and loved by so many. The sisters of Sigma Delta Tau will remember her infectious smile and positive light forever."

Of the T36 people who sustained injuries in the crash, three remained hospitalized Friday, authorities said.

According to the Morris County Office of Emergency Management:f

  • Four people were seriously injured and transported to Morristown Medical Center’s Level 1 Trauma Center by ambulance.
  • Seventeen were transported by the Morris County Office of Emergency Management’s mobile ambulance bus. 
  • Five were transported to Saint Clare's in Dover. 
  • Ten were transported from Route 80 to the Parsippany District 5 firehouse for evaluation.

The cause remains under investigation, state police said.

A vigil honoring Herrara will be held at the university at 7 p.m. Friday.
